BENCHMARKS

 

 

I have a lot of problems with the idea of benchmarks, especially for a course like this, a course freely taken (and freely offered). One, practical probllem is the implication that skills will be acquired in a particular order, and that is not so. Nonetheless, for what they are worth:

 

These banchmarks are written as "I can" statements.

 

 

BENCHMARK 1

 

I can:   

 

• Register with Second Life
• Create and name an avatar
• Make my avatar walk

 

BENCHMARK 2

 

I can:

 

• Make my avatar "Walk here."
• Use movement controls
• Make my avatar sit
• Make my avatar stand up
• Make my avatar fly
• Take snapshots
• Use camera controls

 

 

BENCHMARK 3

 

I can:

 

•  Make friends
• Join groups
• Accept invitations to teleport
• Teleport
• Set the various controls for voice
• Search for places
• Use the World Map to obtain a SLURL

 

 

BENCHMARK 4

 

I can:

 

• Use notecards
• Collect landmarks
• Upload single images
• Use IM communication
• Set the various controls for voice
