I come to the final, olfficial tutorial mesage, though it need not be so melodramtic as that sounds. All our sites will remain and I'll be here to answer any questions that you might have - if I can.

I hope you've all got something out of the tutorial - perhaps some knowledge, perhaps, more importantly, the confidence to go on exploring SL on your own. It's a pity that of those who enrolled, 34, not all were able to stay with us to the end, but I guess that is December and the end of the year and life.

I shall put the following on the wiki, but I wanted to hightlight the contents first in a message.

1.   I can throughly recommend the free, 6-week long on line workshops that are being run from January 12 - February 22. Of special interest to those who enjoy SL will be Virtual Worlds and Language Learning, orgnised by Graham Stanely, one of those in charge of the British Council's teen island project,  and Nick Noakes, creator of Boracay, with the assistance of Daffodil Kern, co-founder of slexperiments and one Dennis Newson, who will be emptying the ashtrays, if there are any.

Registration is from January  1st. Please do not write beforehand because Yahoo will not hold your registration and the whole procedure gets complicated. Just be patient and put the date in your diary.

Lists

There is only one list that carries detailed information of SL, and that is SLED. You must read selectively or you'll be overwhelmed, but the list is unique. (Go for the digest option, all the mails from one day posted together, rather than the one at a time choice.)

You will find details within this very useful wiki:

http://simteach.com/wiki/index.php?title=Second_Life_Education_Wiki.

Many of the webheads are active in SL, and their list is worth joining for contacts and information.

The list under whose auspices this tutorial was held can be throughly recommended, and its title indicates its area of interest: Learning With Computers

A smaller list concerned wit teaching in SL and meets weekly is  slexperiments. This group is based on a wiki and a Google group.

Blogs

There are a couple of blogs I'd especially recommend - Gavin's and Nik Peachey's two or three.

Gavin's is:

That'SLife - On Second Life and Other Things

http://slife.dudeney.com/?p=33

Nik's are largely lists of new sites he has tried out and recommends. They are of great practical use.

News and Tips: http://quickshout.blogspot.com/

Student Activities: http://daily-english-activities.blogspot.com/

4 lists and two blogs - I think that is manageable and will suffice to keep you up to date and in the swim.

I mustn't forget, though, to mention some videos, which are fun to watch and will revise what you know or order it for you.

Videos

Nik Peachey Video Tutorial booths. These are on  one of Gavin's EduNation islands. Sit up straight, if you sway around you will not see what is on the screen!

Torley's video tutorials. Torley speaks fast and is not to everyone's taste - but others feel differently.

Finally, a recently published book, which I can thoroughly recommend. It gives "hundreds of practical tips and techniques" and gives the locations of hundred of sites that are worthwhile visiting.

Richard Mansfield, How to do Everything with Second Life. Osborne, (McGraw Hill) 2008, ISBN 978 0 07 149789 3

And don't forget, there is a meeting in my SL villa on:

Date: 21 December

Time: 19: 00 GMT

Place: Dennis' villa in SL

http://slurl.com/secondlife/EduNation%20III/164/224/22

Subject: Voice settings plus outing

For those of you who celebrate it, Merry Christmas and to all of you:

A happy, successful New Year.

Dennis
